ALAN McGee, the man who discovered Oasis, seemed for a while to have lost his magic touch. Then late last year, with very little fanfare, a record with the rather presumptuous - but in the end prophetic - title Your New Favourite Band appeared on record shop shelves. And promptly flew off them again. The album went gold last weekend and as a result The Hives look set to save McGee's ailing Poptones label.
