They are the workhorses of the DuPage County Republican Party.
They circulate nominating petitions, attend fund-raisers, stuff envelopes, distribute campaign literature, work the phones, pound the pavement, install lawn signs and drive voters to the polling place on Election Day.
They do it all for no pay, little prestige and, in many cases, little reward.
Without them, local political campaigns couldn't happen, yet the influence of committeemen is waning even as their workload is growing. And while they have to run every two years to retain their seats, they are largely invisible outside ...
