ACTOR Jim Broadbent is the toast of the British film world after scooping a top Hollywood award for his role in the movie Iris.
Broadbent was honoured by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association with a Golden Globe for best actor in a supporting role.
He received the honour for his portrayal of Iris Murdoch's husband, John Bayley, at the 59th annual ceremony.
Broadbent starred with Dame Judi Dench as the literary critic husband of Murdoch, the late novelist and philosopher who died in February 1999.
