Jan. 28--Unless there's a surprise ending, the proposed alliance between American Airlines Inc. and British Airways PLC appears dead again, for the second time since it was first proposed in 1996.
But, as one analyst pointed out, that doesn't mean that the two carriers can't cooperate to their mutual benefit despite failing to win immunity from antitrust laws as the pair had sought.
