The Rocky Mount Telegram can thank a black squirrel for a chunk of its eight percent jump in circulation.
The squirrel was the featured character in a weekly story the 14,500-circulation North Carolina daily printed last year as part of a concerted effort to boost readership through its Newspapers in Education (NIE) program. As reported in the fall FAS-FAX from the Audit Bureau of Circulations of Schaumburg, Ill., the paper was up 1084 copies.
