539 foreign companies set up plants in China and accounted for 60% of the total volume and over 90% of the total sales revenue. China will cut the tariff rate of cosmetics from current 35% to 10% by 2005.
Despite the economic slowdown in the global wide, the cosmetics segment in China still gain good performance in 2000 with a 16.7% growth prior to the year 1999. According to the statistics supplied by China Perfumes and Cosmetics Association, there are 3 070 cosmetic producers registered in the State Administration for Industry & Commerce of China.
