LORD Of The Rings surged past Harry Potter last night in the race for the Baftas.

The movie of JRR Tolkien's classic tale received 13 nominations for the awards.

They included best film, best director, best adapted screenplay and best lead actor for Sir Ian McKellen as wizard Gandalf.
