Movie Wars Skirmish
James Monaco's review of Jonathan Rosenbaum's book Movie Wars (Cineaste, Vol. XXVI, No. 4) makes a few good points, particularly regarding Rosenbaum's tendency to concentrate his anger on the same predictable targets. However, these are canceled out by a condescending tone that reeks of middle-age burnout.
First off, Monaco complains that there are no "Young Turks" left in film criticism. (How does he expect them to thrive in a cultural climate more open to glib 300-word blurbs than the kind of lengthy reviews Rosenbaum specializes in?) Has he browsed the Internet or been to a newsstand lately? Is he familiar with the estimable work ...
