WALNUT CREEK, Calif. _ The Bay Area appears to have started its recovery from the recession and is poised to bounce back from the downturn, according to a new index of economic activity in the region released Tuesday.
The financial barometer, dubbed the Bay Area Economic Index, showed its first upswing in about a year during November, the Association of Bay Area Governments reported. The index measures economic activity in the Bay Area and is designed to be a leading indicator for what's about to happen in the region's economy, said Paul Fassinger, ABAG's research director.
