Q: I'm interested in your opinion of colloidal silver. I've been told it can turn your skin gray, but I thought that was only if the silver was silver nitrate. -- D.B., e-mail
A: Silver is a metal that occurs naturally in some foods. We can't help ingesting a bit of it. Colloidal silver is a suspension of tiny particles of silver and has strong antimicrobial properties. It has been used both internally and externally until recently. In 1999, the FDA ruled that colloidal silver was not recognized as safe for either topical or internal use.
