Rising orders for missiles and space products in 1989 win, in part, offset the slumping military aircraft business, but U.S. aerospace sales will rise once again in 1990 to a record $137.3 billion, mostly fueled by commercial aircraft orders, the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) said yesterday in its annual year-end forecast.

Preliminary estimates are that net after-tax profits for the entire industry will drop 13 percent from $4.9 billion last year to $4.3 billion in 1989, although sales were expected to rise to a record high of $120.6 billion, up from the 1988 total of $114.6 billion.
