A delightful testament to the persistence of romance in an unromantic modern world, "Italian for Beginners" is not quite the first Danish Dogma 95 comedy. "Mifune" was. But who cares?
Written and directed by Lone Scherfig, a Danish National Film School graduate who made her feature debut in 1991 and has directed three feature films, "Italian for Beginners" has both guileless charm and surprisingly rough edges. And I'm not just talking about the no-budget, home-movie look of the shot-on-digital-video Dogma ...
