Article: Justice Department Tells White House Not to Destroy Enron-Related Records.

Feb. 2--WASHINGTON -- The Justice Department on Friday directed the White House not to destroy any records related to Enron's contacts with government officials because they could be needed in a criminal investigation.

The sweeping request, delivered to the White House by fax after normal business hours, seeks any information that "relates in any way to Enron's financial condition and/or business interests" going back to Jan. 1, 1999. Similar directives went to other federal agencies, but the Justice Department refused to name them.
