Nothing feels quite so good or looks so attractive as elephant ivory gracing the frame of a classic handgun. But the look and feel of a handgun was the last thing on my mind back in September of 1970. Facing an elephant standing less than 30 yards away made the Winchester Model 70 .458 Win. Mag. rifle seem small in my hands. A handgun would have felt like a toy.
