When Peggy Lee died last week it brought back some memories of our days in North Dakota in 1968. That was the year that she, Lawrence Welk, Roger Maris, Eric Severeid and others were inducted into the state's Roughrider Hall of Fame.
Welk was one of the few inductees on hand for the ceremony. Some were ill, some deceased. Others sent their regrets. But, not Peggy Lee. She was alive and well and wanted no part of it. She gave no excuses for not attending the ceremony, which was in what is now called Memorial Hall in the state capitol where they unveiled portraits of the inductees.
