THE MANUFACTURING SECtor has continued to feel the sting of a sluggish economy. However, the net job loss among the largest manufacturing concerns in Arkansas has changed little in the past four months.
Total employment of the state's 25 largest manufacturers slipped from 79,924 in September 2001 to 79,735. That's a net loss of 189 jobs during the past four months.
Only five companies reported changes in employment. George's Inc. of Springdale was the lone gainer of the bunch. The company's total state employment grew by 500 jobs and was attributed to a couple of factors.
