EPA FINES NORTH BERGEN MUA FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT VIOLATIONS
NEW YORK, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- A consent decree has been entered into in Federal District Court in Newark, N.J., to correct wastewater treatment violations by the Township of North Bergen Municipal Utilities Authority. The decree settles a complaint filed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) against North Bergen in March 1986 for discharging pollutants into the Hudson River in violation of the Clean Water Act and its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. The decree includes a $58,000 penalty.
