Scientifically, global warming is usually a two-part thesis. First, if humanity injects carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels, more heat should be trapped against the earth's surface. Secondly, as world temperatures rise, heat-sensitive critters will get baked or boiled. But both sides of this theory--rising temperatures and vulnerable species--have resisted conclusive proof. Jan Veizer, a geologist from the University of Ottawa, has come up with the latest awkward evidence.
