THE Shostakovich 11th Symphony is a work by the modern Russian Composer (he died in 1975) which should hold special interest for African Americans and their brothers and sisters throughout the Diaspora. There are different poins of view on whether the monumental work is a commentary on the turmoil in Leningrad in 1905 or on the Hungarian uprising in the late 1950s, but it is cerainly a statement about oppression and struggle and a declaration that tyrants almost always fall.
