Class A disease.African Swine Fever (ASF) is a viral infection of domestic and feral pigs (wild boar) that causes a serious disease, which may be transmitted by vectors (ticks of the genus Ornithodorus). As its name suggests, it originates from Africa, where the virus is endemic in a large part of the continent in the local wild pig (warthog) and in the local vector (the Ornithodorus moubata tick). There are no vaccines available to control the disease but it spreads like wild fire in pig herds.
