Two months after losing a battle over ambulance service in a broad territory north and west of the city, the Eugene Fire Department has thrown itself headlong into another jurisdictional dispute - this one over fire and first-response emergency medical care in the Santa Clara area.
Eugene Fire Chief Tom Tallon announced that his department will not renew coverage contracts this summer with the Santa Clara Fire District and Lane Rural Fire & Rescue, but will instead send its own crews to calls for service from the one-third of Santa Clara residents whose properties have been annexed into the city of Eugene.
