SALT LAKE CITY _ Mike Eruzione kept his secret until the very end.
Early in Friday night's Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, I asked Eruzione, star of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey gold medalists, if he had been contacted about lighting the cauldron.
"You never know what happens," he said. "We're excited. The whole team is here watching and enjoying it."
So you're not disappointed at the team not being selected?
"Not at all," he said.
Of course, he wasn't disappointed. Two hours later, Eruzione and his teammates lighted the cauldron.
