The search for a new University of Wisconsin men's hockey coach is still in the formative stages, but it already has taken an unusual tact.
Late last month, two weeks after Jeff Sauer announced he would retire at the end of this season, former Badgers players received a letter from UW athletic director Pat Richter. In it, Richter asked for their input. He wrote that he welcomed their thoughts and suggestions. He encouraged them to call or drop him a note.
