A new allergy drug created by a Marlboro company can be used for treating hives and indoor allergies in addition to seasonal allergies, the federal Food and Drug Administration said yesterday.
Clarinex, whose key compound is licensed by Sepracor Inc. to giant drug maker Schering-Plough Corp., can be used to treat allergies to such things as dust and animal dander, which could give it an advantage in the competitive realm of non-sedating antihistamines, analysts said. Sepracor gets royalty payments from Schering based on sales of the drug.
