Santa Clara neighbors worried about creeping annexation can voice their concerns tonight at a Santa Clara Fire District meeting where board members are expected to shift part of their coverage area to Eugene firefighters.
"We cannot manage all the alarms in the district," Santa Clara Fire Chief Skip Smith said.
The 40-member all-volunteer force responded to 1,000 calls last year, and is 13 calls short of that this year. That's a far cry from the 250 calls a year the district handled 20 years ago with the same number of volunteers, Smith said.
