ABSTRACT
Recent trials with vitamin [D.sub.3] metabolites show great promise in poultry diets for skeletal development and maintenance during egg production.
Numerous reports have reviewed the extent of vitamin D metabolites in poultry. As such, these reviews have focused on the essentialness of vitamin [D.sub.3] and its metabolites (Ammenuddin et al., 1985), the role of vitamin [D.sub.3] in calcium and phosphorus metabolism (DeLuca, 1979) and the applicability of specific vitamin [D.sub.3] metabolites in poultry nutrition (Soares et al., 1995). As such, this article will focus primarily on recent papers published on the role of different metabolites.
