Feb. 13--Slightly more than 35 million people visited Las Vegas last year, a 2.3 percent decline from 2000, a research analyst for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported Tuesday.

With a slumping U.S. economy and reduced demand for air travel, the numbers aren't expected to show much improvement in the coming year either, said Terry Jicinsky, research manager for the tourism agency.

After tallying 35.8 million visitors in 2000, the authority was projecting a 2.3 percent increase to 36.7 million early last year, but revised that estimate to 1 ...
