YAKIMA -- The U.S. Forest Service willfully disregarded the safety of its employees on the Thirtymile fire in north central Washington, where four firefighters died last summer, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration said yesterday.
OSHA said the Forest Service did not provide a place of employment that was "free of recognized hazards that could cause serious harm or death."
The OSHA report left families of the dead firefighters unimpressed. One parent noted that the Forest Service reached many of the same conclusions in its own investigation and that OSHA has no authority to fine a federal ...
