Out of 16,000 news stories that aired on ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN in 2000, 0.53% were about Latinos, reports the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. This is a decrease from the 1.3% of stories about Latinos that aired in 1999.
Most of the stories featuring Latinos focused on the Vieques Island bombing and protests. Migration and politics had the second- and third-highest level of coverage.
