abstract

This study examines the real estate investment holdings of members of the United States Senate during the period 1993-1999. The real estate holdings are described in terms of the number of properties held, value of the investments, property types, property locations, and transactional patterns. Comparisons are made between the real estate activities of the senators and other U.S. investors with similar levels of income. In addition the study compares the real estate holdings of senators in different political parties and among groups of senators with various levels of seniority.
