From the bayou to the 'burbs. Chicago favorite Lonnie Brooks heads to the Northwest 'burbs today for a show at Durty Nellie's, 55 N. Bothwell, Palatine.
The Louisiana-born bluesman began his professional career playing with zydeco master Clifton Chenier. He stepped out on his own in 1957, under the moniker Guitar Junior. He arrived in Chicago with Sam Cooke in 1959 and spent the 1960s playing Chicago clubs and R&B sessions.
By the 1970s he had solidified his reputation as one of the city's most dynamic guitarists, combining the swamp boogie of his native Louisiana with the urban blues of Chicago and earning a Grammy ...
