Cocaine and Urinary Tract Defects
Many of the dangers of maternal cocaine use to the developing fetus are well known. Spontaneous abortions, abrupt separation of the placenta from the uterus, (abruptio placentae), prematurity, low birth weight, intrauterine growth retardation, stillbirth, and childhood neurobehavioral deficits are some of the problems cocaine causes. Another to add to the list is abnormalities of the urinary tract system.
