Although Poland and Lithuania, whose territories lie between Kaliningrad and the rest of Russia, will join the EU in 2004, if all goes to plan, they and the other new Member States are only expected to be fully integrated into the Schengen zone at the end of 2005. Until then, the present situation will largely continue, whereby traffic to and from Kaliningrad largely depends on the national rules of these two countries.
