A day doesn't pass without the media or a legislator proclaiming that Sept. 11 has fundamentally changed how we live and how we act.
Has life changed that much in America?
To examine the impact of Sept. 11, we have to separate how Americans as individuals and how the U.S. administration have reacted.
Residents of New York and those linked to the event by personal losses in lives or work throughout the country were deeply hurt. But aside from these so directly affected, reactions have been minimal. Yes, lines at airports are longer, but the wait is manageable and passengers are patient.
