Feb. 17--The Nasdaq was propelled higher this past week, helped by Network Appliance, which jumped 17.5 percent after reporting better than expected earnings and picking up subsequent upgrades from banks.
Applied Materials was up only fractionally on Tuesday as there was no big surprise in its first-quarter earnings report. However, the market believes the company is gaining share in 300 mm and copper-related products while China is emerging quickly as a significant equipment market.
