CORVALLIS - Oregon State lost one player and won one game Monday, and the former set up Brandon Payton to have an impact on the latter as he scored a season-high 21 points to help the Beavers overcome Portland, 74-60.
Two nights after playing only seven minutes when the Beavers were routed by Oregon, Payton started for only the fifth time this season and logged 35 minutes against the Pilots. There had to be a few among the 2,932 in Gill Coliseum wondering who Payton was, and what was up.
