The big news in classical musical this week is the world premiere of "Prairie Songs" by the Festival Choir at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mitby auditorium on the Madison Area Technical College Truax campus.
(Advance tickets are $12, or $10 for seniors and students; at the door they'll be $15 and $12. Call 238-8030. The concert will be repeated at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in Prairie du Sac at the River Arts Center. Call 608-643-5636.)
The 20-minute a cappella work, by the well-known composer Stephen Paulus of the Twin Cities, was commissioned for $15,000 by the Festival Choir several years ago.
