Thinking about a

family room?

If you're under 35, you might think the term "family room" has always been with us. But it hasn't. Once, this room was rarely included in houses--and when it was, it went by such names as "recreation," "rumpus," or "play." In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the room began appearing in most mass-produced houses, and "family" became the most common name for it. From there, the term fast became part of our vacabulary.
