MADISON, Wis. -- The number of asthma sufferers in the U.S. has more than doubled in the last 20 years to nearly 15 million -- roughly one in every 14 people -- according to studies by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Given the alarming rise in the number of asthma sufferers, it's no surprise that people want to know the best way to fight common indoor air irritants like household dust, pollen, pet dander and smoke," said Sean McCarthy, director of the Aprilaire Center for Indoor Air Comfort.

According to McCarthy, technological advances have helped to create the most efficient whole-house air cleaner on the market.
