Al Bosse will know whether the new Mel Gibson movie ''We Were Soldiers'' accurately portrays the fear, blood and inspiration of the Vietnam War's first major battle.
The former Covington police chief, then a 20-year-old radio operator, was on the first Army helicopter dropped into the Ia Drang Valley in 1965.
Bosse traveled with the man in charge, Harold Moore, then a lieutenant colonel and Gibson's character in the film that opens March 1.
