Article: TAIWAN SET TO INJECT NEW FUNDS INTO PLASTICS SECTOR.

TAIPEI, Feb. 25 Asia Pulse - The Ministry of Economic Affairs is planning to earmark NT$49 million ($US1.39 million) to help promote and upgrade the plastics sector, the Industrial Development Bureau under the ministry said.

Affected by a number of downward factors such as serious labor shortages, increased costs associating with rising environmental protection awareness, a lack of upgraded technology and the 1997 Asian financial crises, the bureau said the output of Taiwan's plastics industry totaled NT$270.6 billion (US$7.73 billion) last year, down 11.4 percent from 2000, the largest fall in 15 years.
