Producers of sheet glass could not yet rely on the domestic market to dispose of their production as the domestic market remains weak as long as the real sector remains in the doldrums. The producers, therefore, have sought to turn to export market to make up for the decline in sales on the domestic market. As a result, exports surged 76.9% to 479,869 tons in 1999 and rose further to 520,564 tons in 2000. The export value shot up 140% to US$ 112.77 million in 1999 and further by 29.% to US$ 146.39 million in 2000.
