New Orleans' newest hotel is like something out of Alice in Wonderland. The Hotel Monaco, which opened last summer, has an unconventional style that seems like the backdrop to a fairy tale. Striped patterns, cool marbles, fiery colors, sheer curtains and live goldfish create a magical atmosphere that bewitches the senses. The 19-story building, constructed in 1926 as a Masonic temple, maintains many of its original neoclassical elements. Situated in the city's Central Business District on St. Charles Avenue, the hotel is a short walk to the French Quarter, the Ernest M. Morial Convention Center and the New Orleans Superdome.
