EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE - Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Michael Ryan completed a two-day visit to the Antelope Valley on Tuesday with a call for more base closures and praise for the F-22 Raptor.
Ryan, the Air Force's top general, stated the need for an additional round of military base closures while responding to reporters' questions about the Air Force's ability to properly maintain its bases.
``Frankly, we have too many bases,'' Ryan said. ``This is an important issue. I hope a subsequent Congress will take it up.''
But Ryan had good words for Edwards, which he called ``a jewel of our Air Force.''
