CALABASAS - Diners' apparent craving for cheesecake this fall sent fourth-quarter profits soaring at Cheesecake Factory Inc., the company said Monday.

The Calabasas-based operator of 33 restaurants said net income for the period jumped 133 percent from the 1998 fourth quarter, as same-store sales improved, with eight more restaurants in the mix.

``Sales are going up and profit margins are going up . . . we're happy,'' said Jerry Deitchle, chief financial officer of the Cheesecake Factory.
