WESTLAKE VILLAGE - Encompassing barely 5.5 square miles, Westlake Village has traditionally tagged along with neighboring communities when it comes to providing recreation programs for young people.

But children within the city limits may soon have programs aimed specifically at them under a plan to bring youth recreation, from soccer to crafts, closer to home.

The Westlake Village City Council recently approved a plan that would bring 10 new arts and sports programs for children 12 and under, through a contract with the Conejo Recreation and Park District board of supervisors.
