As long as he's not playing against Barry Bonds, Gary Matthews Jr. feels like a veteran.
``He was always one of my favorite players when I was younger,'' Matthews said of the San Francisco Giants outfielder. ``When I play against him, I always get a kick out of it. It's sort of a weird experience.''
Being overwhelmed or in awe of the major-league experience is rare, though, for the 25-year-old Granada Hills High graduate, who has less than a season's worth of experience at this level.
