With the spectre of all local television programming being ruined by boring convention or redundant civil unrest coverage this week, concerned citizens might understandably wonder why entertainment has to suffer when politics comes to town.
But that's not necessarily the case. While our town - more specifically, Hollywood - is not exactly known for making the kind of trenchant political movies you'll find in the cinemas of, say, Britain or Italy or Argentina, a solid body of astute work about the American democratic process has developed over the decades.
