Farmers in Madison County and the rest of the state could pick up more customers through a program recently approved by Gov. George Pataki.
The Farm-to-School Initiative urges schools, colleges and other educational institutions to buy more products from New York state farms. The program's goal is to increase sales for New York farmers and increase the amount of fresh, locally grown food served to state children.
Some Madison County school districts already get some of their fruits and vegetables from New York growers.
