Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, begins at sundown today. Jews will observe the holiest day of their calendar by attending services tonight and daylong services Monday as part of bringing in the new year, 5761.
``To me, Yom Kippur is a day of hope. Marvelous hope. It can be the fulfillment of Isaiah 1:18, 'Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow.' No matter how bad things are or how degenerated the human condition is, people can be saved and be redeemed,'' said Rabbi James Kaufman of Temple Beth Hillel in Valley Village.
